Double ditto on the Roast Grill...though the sign out front will say "Hot Weiners". Simple menu - Hot dogs with mustard/chili/onions/slaw in your preferred combination. Bottled soft drinks or a couple of beer choices. No chips. No fries. No burgers. Only other food items are Aunt Helen's pound cake (so good you'll wanna slap somebody) and baklava, also home made and also outrageously good. The chili is made to George's (the proprietor) grandmother's recipe, Mrs Mary Charles. She was a sweetheart...
Now, if you crave a Detroit stylee hot dog, Cloos Coney Island in the back of Mission Valley Shopping center is the real deal. Not saying it's better than the Roast Grill...just different and great in its own way. But for a real Raleigh tradition, go to the Roast Grill.

Roast Grill. It is a humble place and you best act humble. If you don't annoy the servers, you can have the best hot dog this side of heaven.
Here are the rules: No Ketchup, relish, cheese or mayo. Their chili is a 70 year old recipe. You can ask for onions, mustard, kraut or slaw. It's just soda to drink. No credit cards.
There will be a longggggggggggggg line at the door, but do not worry. The line moves very fast!

ditto the Roast Grill. The establishment dates to 1940, and they definitely serve the best hot dogs in town! There's no other place like it in Raleigh. To avoid the lunchtime crowd go after 2pm and you can take your time.
