I think Chuck's on McDowell St. makes one of the very best burgers you'll find in the Triangle. Their caramelized onions are really hard to beat, and their dark chocolate cake milkshake is impossible to beat!
You can get the best burgers at the Players' Retreat near the corner of Hillsborough Street and Oberlin Road.

Tribeca Tavern
Chuck's is great. Tribeca and Draft are very good, too. I've also heard that MoJoe's on Raleigh has very good burgers, though I've never been there myself.
Go to the bar at Bloomsbury Bistro in 5 Points for a superb burger... Big enough for two to split... Also get the sweet potato fries.
